The Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has called for equal salaries for both male and female athletes who represent the nation.

He explained that both genders put in the same effort to achieve good results in their respective disciplines, so it would be fair for financial compensation to be managed equally.

The minister lamented the wage disparity between male and female athletes and called for reforms to promote fairness.

“It is quite unfortunate. I think we need to treat all our athletes equally. I even hold the view—it may be controversial, but I believe we should be paying equal wages to both male and female athletes. I don’t see why men should be paid more than women, and that in itself is a problem,” he said on JoyNews.

Addressing the Black Queens’ $9,500 unpaid bonus, the Member of Parliament for Abura Asebu-Kwamankese Constituency described the situation as “unfortunate.”

“Delays are not desirable, so we should take steps going forward to ensure this does not recur. But I’m grateful that efforts are underway to resolve the situation quickly so that they can return to the field and bring us honor,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Black Queens humiliated Egypt 4-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 28, 2025, and qualified for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a 7-0 aggregate score.
