Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is a former Vice President of Ghana Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is a former Vice President of Ghana

A new poll conducted by research firm Global InfoAnalytics reveals that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia continues to enjoy overwhelming support among members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), positioning him strongly ahead of the party’s January 2026 presidential primary.

According to the survey, 72% of NPP voters who supported Dr Bawumia in the 2024 general election still back him to lead the party.

Only 20% of those same voters have shifted their allegiance to Kwabena Agyei Agyepong (KOA), while the remainder indicated that they are undecided.

In the party’s stronghold of the Ashanti Region, the former Vice President’s dominance is even more pronounced: 73% of respondents said they would stick with Dr Bawumia as their preferred choice, compared with 20% who favoured Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

The results suggest that many NPP loyalists view Dr Bawumia as the candidate most likely to unite the party and continue its “transformational agenda.”

Global InfoAnalytics noted that a subsequent poll of delegates in October 2025 will provide further insight into how voting intentions might shift ahead of the internal election in January.
