Thousands of fans thronged the Independence Square in Accra for Shatta Wale Thousands of fans thronged the Independence Square in Accra for Shatta Wale

Many could only describe it as an ‘overflow’ when pictures and videos from the Independence Square on the night of Saturday, October 18, 2025, made their way to social media.

Music fans, in their thousands, had thronged the grounds of the iconic venue as they came to witness one of Ghana’s biggest musical talents, Shatta Wale, as he celebrated his birthday with a massive concert in Accra.

In the days leading up to that fateful night, social media users were bombarded with ads about the concert. The event, sponsored by telecommunications company, MTN, was also a way for Shatta Wale to celebrate his 41st birthday with his loyal fans and well-wishers.

Right from the morning of the event, the atmosphere in many parts of Accra was rife with expectations. Fans of Shatta Wale were seen in T-shirts and other regalia showcasing their love for him.

Many others were seen in groups, hailing rides to the venue and inviting other individuals to the event.

As of 6 PM, the Independence Square was almost full, but many were still pouring in. Cars, buses, and motorcycles full of Shatta Wale fans kept making their way to the venue.

By 10 PM, the Square was full to the brim, but the crowd pouring in did not relent. According to pictures making waves online, the roads leading to the square were choked with human and vehicular traffic coming from various parts of the country, headed towards the packed venue.

Shatta Wale himself, overwhelmed by the massive crowd, took to social media to beg them to stop.

“The way the place choke please some of you have to go home ok, I beg you,” he posted.

But in all, the event was a massive success. Various artistes, including Samini, Tinny, Kelvynboy, Jupita, Wendy Shay, and many others, with Shatta Wale, ended the show with a massive performance, bringing a satisfying end to a much-anticipated event.
