Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah popularly known as Shatta Wale has opened up about the influence his father had on his approach to learning and personal growth.

Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime on October 15, 2025, Shatta Wale shared that although his parents were strict, his father placed more emphasis on self-education and self-awareness.

“My parents were strict but education wise, I was doing well. Along the line, my grade started dropping and that’s because I got some friends in school who didn’t like going to class” he said.

According to the Kakai hitmaker, his father believed that knowing oneself was key to success in life.

“My dad is more of the `know thyself’ spirit. Education was part of the plan but all he wanted me to know is just to be aware of who I am, what am I in this world to do, what career can I pursue to become successful,” he added.

He said his father preferred to teach him valuable life lessons at home, which helped shape how he sees the world.

“My dad was more of self education and he was always teaching me in the house. My dad really took me to school of life and I’ve been able to figure out what life is so I move accordingly” he added.
