A High Court in Kumasi has adjourned the injunction application filed by Akosua Serwaa, the legally married wife of the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, to October 28, 2025.

The adjournment was made on Thursday, October 16, 2025, after the court convened to hear the legal action initiated by Akosua Serwaa Fosuh regarding disputes surrounding Lumba’s funeral arrangements and widowhood rites.

Speaking to the media after the hearing, Akosua Serwaa’s lawyer, William Kusi, explained the reason for the adjournment.

He stated that Odo Broni’s legal team had challenged Akosua Serwaa’s very right to bring the case in the first place, to which the court, presided over by Justice Dorinda Smith Arthur, adjourned the case to allow for the filing of the necessary documents.

“Counsel for Odo Broni filed a process challenging the capacity of Akosua Serwaa. So, the court has adjourned the matter for that to be determined before we go to substantive matters. On the 28th, we would be coming back to argue her capacity,” he said.

He, however, assured that a final ruling will be given within the shortest possible time to ensure that the funeral goes as planned and Akosua Serwaa will be able to perform her widowhood rites.

“We have been promised by the court that a timetable will be set to ensure that the matter is decided upon within the shortest possible time,” he said.

In the suit, filed on October 3, 2025, Akosua Serwaa Fosu sought several declarations from the court, including formal recognition as the only surviving legal spouse of the late musician and the sole person entitled to perform widowhood rites at his funeral.

The adjournment of the case means both parties will appear before court again to hear a ruling over the matter on the 28th of October.

Daddy Lumba‘s family appears in court over Akosua Serwaa’s funeral injunction

    Background of the dispute

After Daddy Lumba’s family announced that his final funeral rites will take place on December 6, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, Akosua Serwaa, in a recent press statement, expressed shock and disappointment that she and her children were not consulted in deciding the funeral date or arrangements. According to her, they only found out about the event through social media.

    Akosua Serwaa’s demands

In her statement of claim, Akosua Serwaa is asking the High Court to:

*Declare her as the only surviving legal spouse of the late musician.

*Affirm that she alone has the legal right to perform widowhood rites.

*Restrict the family head, Kofi Owusu Fosu, from recognizing or dealing with Priscilla Ofori Atta (Odo Broni) as a spouse of the deceased.

*Restrict Odo Broni from publicly presenting herself as the wife of the late Daddy Lumba.

Akosua Serwaa argues that unless the court intervenes, she will be unjustly denied her rightful role as the legally recognized spouse of the late music icon.
