Media personality Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah has criticised the family head of the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba.
He has accused the family head of trying to take over the musician’s stardom and constantly appearing on social media to grant interviews amid the ongoing issues surrounding the funeral arrangements.
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah expressed frustration over what he described as unnecessary confusion within Daddy Lumba’s family following the singer’s death.
He said the family head, Kofi Owusu, is behind the tension and misunderstandings surrounding the funeral preparations.
According to the media personality, it is inappropriate for the elderly man to be granting media interviews about sensitive family matters, particularly on the question of who has the right to perform the widowhood rites.
He said such actions are causing embarrassment and disrespect to the memory of the late musician.
The media personality accused the family head of exploiting the attention surrounding Daddy Lumba’s passing to seek personal recognition instead of maintaining dignity and unity within the family.
“As for this Abusuapanin, if you are looking for a useless family head, then it is this one. He takes delight in being on social media more than anything else. Was he appointed as family head because of social media?
“I don’t know, he seems to think he inherited Daddy Lumba’s stardom and now believes he can act like a celebrity since Daddy Lumba is no more. This is a family head who, less than 24 hours after Daddy Lumba’s death, went viral for speaking about his relative’s temperament. He was the one who started this disgraceful act,” he stated.
Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah’s comments come amid a deepening rift within Daddy Lumba’s family over the late musician’s funeral arrangements.
The dispute intensified after Daddy Lumba’s wife, Akosua Serwaa, and her children filed a lawsuit seeking to halt the planned funeral.
In a press statement, Akosua Serwaa, who described herself as the legally wedded wife of the late musician, said she was sidelined in the decision-making process regarding his funeral.
She argued that she was neither consulted nor acknowledged in the arrangements and therefore asked the court to officially recognise her as the legitimate wife.
She also sought to prevent another woman, known as Odo Broni, from presenting herself as Daddy Lumba’s wife.
