Ras Kuuku has chastised musicians who claim they are not motivated by awards.

He called such statements dishonest and hypocritical during an interview with Doreen Avio and Kwame Dadzie on Hitz FM.

Kuuku argued that recognition is an essential part of every artiste’s journey, and awards represent the ultimate acknowledgement of one’s craft and impact.

“Any artiste who says they don’t do music for awards is lying. Awards bring joy and make fans proud. It’s a recognition of your hard work. When you win, it means the music you planted has borne fruit. If you don’t, then maybe what you sowed failed to be harvested,” he said.

According to Ras Kuuku, awards not only validate creativity but also motivate artistes to refine their work and stand out from the crowd.

He stressed that recognition separates serious artistes from the rest, adding that “those who say they don’t want awards are the same ones who love comparisons. Awards set you apart. If you’re an artiste, whether legendary or not, and you’ve never won a TGMA, then there’s something wrong.”

The reggae and dancehall artiste revealed that many artistes secretly feel disappointed when they are overlooked during major award events, noting that some even cry in private after missing out.

Ras Kuuku said his own awards are a source of pride and fulfilment, proof that his dedication has paid off. He encouraged the industry and fans to continue valuing platforms like the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), which he believes drive excellence and strengthen the bond between musicians and their audiences.
