The legal representatives of the Fosu Royal Family of Parkoso and Nsuta, Baba Jamal & Associates, have issued a detailed response to Akosua Serwaa of Germany regarding her complaints about matters related to the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba.

In a letter dated October 1, 2025, and signed by Fati Ali-Yallah, the law firm addressed six key issues, including Akosua Serwaa’s alleged desertion of her husband, her expressed intention to divorce him, the customary dissolution of their marriage, and the recognition of Priscilla Ofori, known as Odo Broni, as Lumba’s wife.

The letter also touched on the handling of the late musician’s properties and the family’s appeal for peace ahead of his funeral.

Daddy Lumba’s lawyers challenge Akosua Serwaa’s claim over marriage

Here are the six key revelations made by Baba Jamal Associates, the legal representatives of Lumba’s family:

    1. Akosua Serwaa’s refusal to relocate with Daddy Lumba

The lawyers revealed that Akosua Serwaa refused to return to Ghana with her then-husband when he fell ill about 15 years ago.

According to the family’s instructions, her actions amounted to abandonment during a difficult period.

“Our instructions are that, your client, Akusua Serwaa Fosu of Germany refused to relocate with her then husband Daddy Lumba to Ghana for medical help when the latter was seriously ill some 15 years ago and therefore deserted him in his difficult time of need.”

    2. Akosua Serwaa expressed intentions for divorce in 2018

The letter further stated that in 2018, Akosua Serwaa communicated her intention to divorce the late musician.

The statement indicated that Daddy Lumba’s lawyers at the time reportedly responded, challenging her to proceed with the divorce.

“Your client on 4 February, 2018 wrote to the late Daddy Lumba expressing her intentions to initiate divorce proceedings against him raising many unfounded allegations which the late Daddy Lumba denied. In a letter dated 27th February, 2018 the then Lawyers for the late Daddy Lumba responded to the letter and called the bluff of your client to proceed with her threats to initiate divorce proceedings since he had moved on with his life after her desertion.”

    3. Akosua Serwaa presented traditional drinks to dissolve the marriage

According to the lawyers, Akosua Serwaa later presented traditional drinks to the family of Daddy Lumba to signify the end of their marriage, an act that holds cultural weight under Akan customary law.

“We wish to state that your client has already presented traditional drinks to the family of the late Daddy Lumba to signify the dissolution of the marriage which the late Daddy Lumba acknowledged.

“By the traditions of the Akans generally and Fosu Royal family in particular, which we have no doubt you are familiar with, the presentation of drinks by a wife to the family of the husband when accepted effectively dissolves the marriage between the two. Also, when a person is deceased the body and funeral arrangements of the person belongs to the family and therefore your client has no right to determine how the Fosu Royal family buries their dead.

“Your client’s name, if it appears in the funeral brochures at all, will be a favour from the family because of the children she has with him.”

    4. Odo Broni is recognised as Daddy Lumba’s wife

The Fosu Royal Family, through their lawyers, stated that they recognise Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni, as Daddy Lumba’s legitimate wife.

The letter explained that she lived with the late musician for over 15 years and supported him until his passing.

“Our client informs us that, Priscilla Ofori (a.k.a Odo Broni) is married to the late Daddy Lumba and was the woman who lived with him through thick and thin and were blessed with six (6) children for over fifteen (15) years they lived together till his final day on earth.

“Suffice it to say that, when your client deserted the late Daddy Lumba, Odo Broni was there for him. It is therefore our clear instructions to state that, Odo Broni is a recognised wife of the late Daddy Lumba and same is recognized by the Fosu Royal family.”

    5. Everyone should stay away from Daddy Lumba’s properties

The lawyers mentioned that all of Daddy Lumba’s assets form part of his estate, which will be managed jointly by the family and his children.

They advised all parties to refrain from taking possession of any property until a lawful distribution process is completed.

“In respect of the properties of the late Daddy Lumba, we wish to state that all his properties forms part of his estate which the family together with the children of the late Daddy Lumba and their mothers shall work together to ensure fair distribution to all who are entitled to benefit.

“Until then, let all persons stay away from the properties till it is properly and legally dealt with. We therefore advise your client to work and comply with the decisions of the Fosu Royal family to ensure a peaceful and befitting funeral for their late royal.”

    6. Legal team holds instructions from Daddy Lumba

The letter also disclosed that Baba Jamal & Associates, who served as Lumba’s lawyers before his death, are in possession of written instructions from him regarding his funeral and estate management.

“As the last lawyers of the late Daddy Lumba before his demise, we have in our custody some instructions from the late Daddy Lumba which serves as a guide to the family as to how he wants his funeral and burial to be conducted as well as the distribution of his estate.”

In conclusion, the Fosu Royal Family called for peace and understanding among all parties involved. They appealed to Akosua Serwaa and other relatives to avoid litigation and engage in constructive discussions to ensure a dignified and befitting burial for the late music icon.

“Finally, to avoid any unproductive litigation among the family and the children that may result in shame for the dead, the Fosu family is open to all for peaceful discussions including your client to ensure a befitting burial for the late Daddy Lumba.”
