The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has met with the leadership of the Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union (GNPTDU) as part of his Ministry’s ongoing stakeholder consultations aimed at strengthening Ghana’s energy sector.

In a statement shared on Wednesday, Jinapor described the engagement as “productive,” noting that discussions focused on key challenges confronting petroleum tanker drivers nationwide.

Among the major issues tabled were drivers’ welfare, the establishment of a fair and structured salary regime, and the elimination of unlawful surcharges.

The minister stressed that addressing these concerns is critical to ensuring stability and efficiency within the country’s petroleum distribution network.

Jinapor acknowledged the vital role of tanker drivers in maintaining a steady and reliable supply of petroleum products across Ghana.

“Their dedication underpins our economic and social stability,” he said, commending the union’s contribution to national development.

He further disclosed that the Ministry will collaborate with the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and other relevant institutions to design a comprehensive framework that responds directly to the concerns of the tanker drivers.

“The Ministry, together with the NPA and key stakeholders, will work towards a policy framework that safeguards drivers’ welfare, enhances operational efficiency, and promotes lasting industrial harmony,” he affirmed.

Jinapor expressed confidence that this collaborative approach will not only improve working conditions for the drivers but also strengthen Ghana’s overall petroleum distribution chain.
