Renowned Ghanaian travel vlogger and YouTube personality Berthold Kobby Winkler Ackon, popularly known as Wode Maya, has revealed that he personally finances every aspect of his content creation.

From travel and production to paying his team without any external sponsorship or institutional support.

Speaking on PrimeTime with George Quaye on Joy Prime on Thursday, October 9, 2025, Wode Maya disclosed that despite receiving a diplomatic passport from the Government of Ghana in recognition of his efforts to promote Ghana and Africa globally, his work remains entirely self-funded.

“I fund everything that I do, including my team. I literally do everything by myself,” he told host George Quaye.

The YouTuber, who has built one of Africa’s most successful digital brands by highlighting African innovation, entrepreneurship, and culture, explained that his income comes solely from the monetisation of his social media platforms particularly YouTube.

“All my platforms are monetised and that is the money that we use to travel,” he said. “Do you know it is more expensive to travel in Africa than in every part of the world?”

Wode Maya also revealed that his strategy includes reposting successful videos to maintain a steady revenue stream, which helps sustain his team and fund his extensive travels across the continent.

“The videos that we make, they generate income, and we use the money to travel,” he added.
