Hype man and MC, OgeeTheMC, has revealed that he was mocked when he first began working with dancehall artiste Stonebwoy.
In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, Ogee disclosed that many people at the time did not understand why he had chosen to dedicate his time and effort to supporting one artiste.
According to him, some people told him to his face that he was wasting his time, but he was confident that the future held something great.
Stonebwoy made hypeman culture in Ghana attractive – OgeetheMC
“I was really mocked when I started as Stonebwoy’s hype man. People told me to my face that I was wasting my time on one artiste. But I looked at the future, and with Stonebwoy’s support, the story of the hype man in Ghana has completely changed,” he said.
Ogee, who has been in the profession for over a decade, explained that the concept of a hype man was not widely accepted or understood in Ghana’s entertainment industry during the early stages of his career.
He noted that with consistency and Stonebwoy’s support, the role has now become an important part of performances in Ghana.
Ogee stated that the transformation of the hypeman business in Ghana was visible at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), where nearly all artistes performed with hypemen on stage.

“With Stonebwoy’s support for my vision, the story of hype man business has changed in Ghana’s entertainment industry, and the evidence showed at this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards. Almost all the artistes performed with a hype man, proof that the craft has grown in space,” he said.
Looking back on his TGMA appearance, where he opened Stonebwoy’s set with a poetic recital, Ogee described it as one of the most memorable moments of his career.
“At the TGMA, I delivered a poetic recital before Stonebwoy’s performance, setting the tone for a seamless transition to his performance. The feedback has been positive, and I can say it is my most memorable,” he added.
