When it comes to rap music in Ghana, one of the notable names who has paid his dues is Kojo Cue.
However, in his own words, he gives the crown to Sarkodie, describing him as the greatest rap artiste of all time in Ghana.
In an interview on Kumasi-based Angel FM, Kojo Cue explained that when it comes to metrics and overall impact, there’s no debate that Sarkodie stands tall.
Kojo Cue advises artistes to treat music like any other profession
Buttressing his point, Kojo Cue pointed to Sarkodie’s consistency in releasing hit songs, nationwide fanbase, and his dominance at award shows.
He added that if Lord Kenya had not stepped away from the music scene, he might have rivaled Sarkodie in terms of influence and fan power.
However, he said due to Lord Kenya’s early exit from the industry, Sarkodie’s extensive catalogue of hits remains unmatched.
Our problems in this country are because of our automatic respect for elders – Kojo Cue
“Sarkodie is the greatest rapper of all time. It is metrics, it’s undeniable. You can check everywhere. Based on consistent hits, based on how huge his fanbase is.
“The only person I can think of who comes close to Sark in terms of fanbase is Lord Kenya, but because Lord Kenya stopped at a point, I don’t think he can go a hundred songs back-to-back with Sark. The most nominated, has won the most awards. Whether you like it or not, you cannot argue it,” Kojo Cue said.
He further stated that while debates over who the best rapper is can be exciting for fans, he personally has moved on from chasing that title.
For him, the next phase of his career is focused on being recognized not just as a rapper, but as one of the best songwriters in Ghana.
