The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has petitioned President John Dramani Mahama and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, over what it describes as “selective justice” and harassment of its members.

The petition was presented on Tuesday, September 23, during the party’s ‘Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna’ demonstration, which attracted hundreds of supporters onto the streets of Accra.

The protest, which started from the Obra Spot at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, moved through key parts of the capital before heading to the Ghana Police Service headquarters.

According to the NPP, the march was in response to a pattern of politically motivated arrests and investigations targeting its members under the current administration.

“This demonstration is a response to a pattern of politically motivated arrests and investigations targeting our members, orchestrated under the current administration,” the NPP said.

There was a heavy deployment of police along the protest route to ensure peace and order as demonstrators carried placards and chanted slogans demanding justice and fairness.

The NPP vowed to continue resisting what it described as ‘state-sponsored intimidation and called on civil society and international partners to take note of the situation.
