ASA Savings and Loans, in partnership with environmental advocacy group Buzstop Boys, has launched an initiative aimed at instilling environmental consciousness in young students. The campaign, which took place at Alajo Basic School and Kotobabi 3 Basic School, sought to equip pupils with practical knowledge on how to manage plastic waste responsibly.

The Buzstop Boys, known for their commitment to promoting sanitation and civic responsibility, engaged the students in interactive sessions on proper waste disposal.

The team demonstrated how plastic waste, if not managed well, contributes to pollution, flooding, and poor sanitation, while also showing the pupils simple ways to segregate and dispose of waste effectively.

As part of the exercise, ASA Savings and Loans provided a waste receptacle to Alajo Basic School to encourage proper waste collection and disposal. This gesture, management said, was to support the school in its efforts to maintain a clean learning environment.

Speaking at the short ceremony, James Sarfo, Vice Leader of Buzstop Boys, emphasized the importance of educating children on sanitation and environmental stewardship.

“The pupils are the future of this country, and by teaching them now, we are preparing responsible leaders who will understand the value of safeguarding the environment,” he said.

Adding his voice, Pope NeeQuaye, Accra Newtown Area Manager of ASA Savings and Loans, highlighted the organization’s commitment to social responsibility and the environment.

“At ASA, we believe a clean environment contributes to healthy living and better education. Teaching pupils to properly manage waste is a critical step in ensuring they grow up with the right values,” he stated.

The initiative was warmly received by the school authorities. Mrs. Elizabeth Obeng Atiemo, Headmistress of Alajo Basic School, expressed her gratitude to ASA for the provision of the receptacle, describing it as timely.

“We have long sought solutions to help our pupils dispose of waste properly. This support from ASA will go a long way to improve sanitation in the school,” she noted.

Similarly, Mr. Peter Ecklu, Headmaster of Kotobabi 3 Basic School, commended ASA Savings and Loans for extending their social support to educational institutions. He called for more partnerships between corporate bodies and schools to address pressing environmental and social issues.

The collaboration between ASA Savings and Loans and Buzstop Boys forms part of a broader agenda to create a culture of environmental consciousness among young people.
