    As the 2025/2026 UEFA Champions League campaign kicks off with thrilling games on matchday 1, GhanaWeb took to the streets of Accra to engage fans about the memories created by Ghanaian players in the competition.

    The fans who spoke to Abigail Lanilord Lartey were asked to name the best Ghanaian player who played and won the UEFA Champions League.

    Abedi “Pele” Ayew, Ibrahim Tanko, Samuel Kuffour, Sulley Muntari, and Michael Essien made the list of Ghanaians who have the UEFA Champions League competition.

    Among the names mentioned, Sulley Muntari and Michael Essien stood out as the clear frontrunners in the poll. A few others also named Abedi Pele, regarded by many as the greatest Ghanaian player as their preferred candidate for the pool.

    Abedi Pele and Ibrahim Tanko won the Champions League in the 90s with Olympique Marseille (1993) and Borussia Dortmund (1997) respectively.

    Samuel Osei Kuffour joined the list in 2001 with Bayern Munich. Sulley Muntari and Michael Essien also got their medals in 2010 and 2012 while playing for Inter Milan and Chelsea respectively.
