Members of the Ewe tribe, who constitute the majority population in Ghana’s Volta Region, made their presence felt at the ongoing four-day funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

Videos sighted by GhanaWeb showed Ewe traditionalists displaying ‘mystical’ powers at Manhyia Palace, causing large conical hay structures to move and spin unaided.

The funeral of the late Asantehemaa has not only been an avenue for showcasing Ashanti culture and the traditions of other tribes who have thronged Manhyia Palace in solidarity, but has also witnessed remarkable displays of traditional spiritual powers.

For instance, on Monday, September 15, 2025, traditional priests were seen at the Manhyia Palace making frantic efforts to prevent rain from disrupting the first day of the funeral.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the central figure in the spiritual and cultural life of the Ashanti people, has, since the commencement of the funeral, been receiving condolences from traditional priests within and outside the Ashanti Kingdom.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III, the 14th Asantehemaa and elder sister of Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, died on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the age of 98.

Her passing was formally announced by the Asantehene during an emergency meeting of the Asanteman Traditional Council on August 11, 2025.

She succeeded her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, in 2017, after a 39-year reign, serving as a key advisor and custodian of Ashanti traditions for eight years.

Her funeral will conclude on Thursday, September 18, when the Queen Mother will be interred at the Bantama Royal Mausoleum.

Some members of the Ewe tribe in Ghana joined Asanteman on the third day of the funeral rites for the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, to show their support and commiserate with Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu III and Asanteman. pic.twitter.com/IdnRwaB4mz
