    Ghanaian duo, Benjamin Azamati and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu have been drawn in a tough heats in the men’s 100 metres at the World Athletics Championship on Saturday, September 13, 2025.

    Benjamin Azamati will be competing in Heat 5 alongside Letsile Tebogo finished 6th in the men’s 100 metres final with a time of 9.86 seconds.

    Courtney Lindsey, Andre De Grasse, Erik Cardoso, Lucas Ansah-Peprah, Rikkoi Brathwaite and Dylan Sicobo have all been drawn into Heat 5.

    Abdul-Rasheed Saminu on the other hand will compete in Heat 7. South Africa’s Akani Simbine will be the top liner in Heat 7.

    Others in Heat 7 are Emmanuel Eseme, Ferdinand Omanyala, Hakim Sani Brown, Xinrui Deng, Elvis Afrifa and Saif Al Rammahi.

    Only the top three finishers from each heat will automatically progress to the semi-finals, making qualification a stern test.

    The heats begin at 11:35 a.m. Ghana time (11:35 GMT), with Azamati racing at 12:03 GMT in Heat 5, while Saminu takes to the track at 12:17 GMT in Heat 7.

    Saminu’s 9.84s recorded in July is the fastest time among the list of athletes lined up in Heat 7.

    In fact, five of the athletes across the two heats have Ghanaian connections — Azamati, Saminu, Ansah-Peprah, Afrifa, and Sani Brown.
