A video capturing what appears to be the final moments of the late Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has gone viral.

The footage, which, according to graphic.com.gh, was part of a tribute video by the Ministry of Defence, shows the moment the late Defence Minister arrived at the Air Force Base to board the Z-9 helicopter belonging to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

Dressed entirely in white, Dr Omane Boamah is seen interacting with some men before entering the aircraft. He reportedly told his bodyguard and the ministry’s cameraman to stay behind due to insufficient space on the helicopter to accommodate them on the trip.

According to the narrator in the video, Dr Omane Boamah, with a broad smile on his face, shook hands with the crew before taking his seat on the aircraft.

As the helicopter prepared to depart, the late Defence Minister was seen seated by the window, waving at his staff as the aircraft moved along the runway before taking off.

    About the crash

Dr Omane Boamah was among the eight victims who lost their lives in the tragic crash of a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The crash also claimed the lives of the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna; former Central Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong; and Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate.

The remaining victims were members of the helicopter’s crew: Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The officials were en route to Obuasi to attend a programme related to illegal mining activities as part of government efforts to end galamsey.
