There have been mixed reactions among football fans on social media after Villarreal CF officially announced the signing of Black Stars midfielder, Thomas Partey ahead of the 2025/26 La Liga season.

The Spanish club confirmed the deal on their social media platforms on Thursday, August 7, 2025, stating that the 32-year-old will join up with the team at their training ground on Friday, August 8.

“Villarreal CF and Thomas Partey have reached an agreement for the Ghanaian footballer to join the Yellows ahead of the 2025/26 season. The player will join up with his new team tomorrow at the Training Ground,” the club posted.

Partey arrives as a free agent after leaving Arsenal following the expiration of his contract in June 2025.

His arrival is expected to bring experience and grit to Villarreal’s midfield as they prepare for a packed 2025/26 campaign.

Reacting to the move, some supporters expressed their delight for the Ghanaian midfielder for being able to secure a move while fighting in court over five counts of rape charges.

They advised the player to focus on delivering his best performances for the Spanish club and should not be perturbed by any booing or protests from fans in Spain.

However, some supporters expressed their disappointment in the club for disregarding the fans’ plea to suspend the deal due to the rape charges.

Very good and balanced statement from a club that clearly listens to competent lawyers rather than base decisions on emotions!

Following Villarreal because of this. Proper statement and backing. Showing his strengths and achievements while acknowledging the elephant in the room. Partey should give them his all.

Many thought Partey needed to get away from England and lie low.
