A staunch supporter of President John Dramani Mahama, Appiah Stadium, sparked controversy on July 24, 2025, during the 13th Wreath Laying Ceremony to honour the memory of former President John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills.

Appiah Stadium, born Frank Kwaku Appiah, staged one of his famous political spectacles when he interacted with President Mahama on the dais.

A viral video shows him sitting on the dais and having a hearty chat with the president, during which he pulled out his phone, seemingly to ask for the president’s contact information.

The president’s gesture of rubbing Appiah Stadium’s shiny bare head has been interpreted as a sign of their strong bond and friendship.

Since switching from the NPP to the NDC, Appiah Stadium’s relevance has centred around creating attention-grabbing scenes with high-profile personalities, including President Mahama.
