Ghanaian entertainment personality, Ola Michael, has waded into the ongoing conversation about the lack of investment in the Ghanaian movie industry.

In a discussion on United Showbiz on July 21, 2025, Ola Michael explained that it costs more to produce a movie in Ghana compared to Nigeria.

He emphasised that Ghanaians should stop comparing themselves to Nigerians so far as the movie industry is concerned.

“There has been a strategic investment plan in Nigeria. Research shows Nigeria is the second country in the world to shoot more movies after India. Nigeria also has a vast population compared to Ghana. So, they have a lot of people watching their movies compared to Ghana.

“It costs less to shoot a movie in Nigeria as compared to Ghana. I am not sure a Ghanaian actor would take the same money Nigerians take if their currency is converted into cedis. In terms of film, I would advise us to stop comparing ourselves to them,” he said.

Ola Michael also advised filmmakers and actors to seek investors instead of complaining about the poor nature of the work.

According to Ola Michael, it is easier for an actor to attract an investor than a movie producer.

“I would advise Gloria Sarfo and the others not to wait for producers to call you. You also have to go look for some. Nobody knows the producers like the actors.

“It is easier for an actor to get an investor than a movie producer. If you look at the Nigerian market, the actresses and actors are the ones producing shows,” he added.
