Media personality and entertainment critic, Ola Michael, has said that he believes President John Dramani Mahama is the only person who can bring life back into Ghana’s movie industry.

Speaking on United Showbiz on July 19, 2025, Ola asserted that Mahama is the only leader who has shown interest in the creative arts industry.

According to him, if President Mahama is unable to revive the industry, then no other government will be able to do so.

“President Mahama is my only hope for reviving the movie industry. If he fails us, I believe no one else can save it. If this government does not support the industry, it will be the end; there will be nothing more we can do. He is the president who has interest in the creative arts, and this is not his first time showing interest. He has been involved since his first term in office,” Ola Michael said.

He also reminded the president of a promise he made to creatives, to meet with them every year to discuss issues and plans pertaining to the industry.

Ola explained that although the year is already halfway through, such a meeting has still not happened.

“He promised that every year he would meet with creatives. Now that we are past the first half of the year, I am unsure if that will happen. So, I want to remind him of this promise. He should not let our adversaries get us,” he added.

Ola Michael also gave some background on why he believes Mahama is the right person to support the industry.

He said since taking over as president in 2012 after the death of former President John Evans Atta Mills, Mahama has shown consistent interest in the arts.

This, he said, led to the creation of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts during Mahama’s tenure.

“Since 2012, when he got the mandate to become a full president, his interest in the arts led to the inclusion of arts in the tourism ministry. He has been consistent in his support,” Ola said.
