The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially approved the 2025 Gbese Mantse Homowo Peace Charity Cup, a highly anticipated pre-season friendly pitting Accra Hearts of Oak against Heart of Lions.
The match, set to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, August 17, 2025, aims to promote peace and unity during the Homowo festival while raising funds for charitable causes in the Greater Accra Region.
Organised under the auspices of the Gbese Mantse, the traditional leader of the Ga community, the charity cup is a celebration of culture and football, bringing together two of Ghana’s storied clubs.
The Phobians will face off against the resilient Heart of Lions, promising a thrilling encounter to kick off the 2025 football season.
The GFA’s approval ensures the match adheres to all regulatory standards with proceeds earmarked for community development projects including education and healthcare initiatives.
Hearts of Oak, coming off a mixed 2024/25 Ghana Premier League campaign, see the match as an opportunity to test their revamped squad under new management.
Heart of Lions, known for their gritty performances, aim to upset the Accra giants and make a statement ahead of the new season.
“This is more than a game; it’s about unity and giving back to our community,” a representative of the Gbese Mantse’s organising committee said.
The GFA has also urged fans to uphold the spirit of peace, aligning with the Homowo festival’s theme of harmony.
As anticipation builds, the 2025 Gbese Mantse Homowo Peace Charity Cup promises to be a vibrant blend of football, culture and philanthropy, showcasing the unifying power of sports in Ghana.
