The 7th edition of the Women in Food and Agricultural Leadership Forum (WOFAGRIC) and the prestigious Gold in the Soil Awards has once again spotlighted the immense contributions of rural women, shareholding farmers, and farmers living with disabilities across Ghana.

As part of its broader initiative to empower women in agriculture, the Agrihouse Foundation organizes regional forums that take the team into farming communities across the country. These engagements allow the foundation to interact directly with farmers, gain firsthand insight into their challenges and identify areas where policy and practical support are most needed.

The two-day events held in Cape Coast, brought together policymakers, agricultural entrepreneurs, development partners, queen mothers and farmers. It was graced by several dignitaries including Mr. Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, the Central Regional Minister, and Mr. John Dumelo, Deputy Minister for Agriculture among others.

Held under the theme “Overcoming the Barriers to Women Agribusiness Development,” the training forum featured a mini exhibition of commodities, products, inputs, and services by some participants.

Speaking to Kobbykyeinews reporter Emmanuel Jacob Amissah, Madam Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, Executive Director and Founder of AgriHouse Foundation, emphasized the importance of such forums in equipping women with the education and resources they need to thrive.

    > “Since this initiative began, the impact has been tremendous. Women now have access to international farmer markets, and many have become leaders within their communities. Some are now opinion leaders driving development at the local level,” she stated.

The event also featured key stakeholders from the agricultural sector. Dr. Peter Kofi Omega, Central Regional Director of Agriculture, reassured participants of government’s commitment to combating illegal mining (galamsey) to preserve fertile lands for food production.

    > “Efforts are underway to provide alternative employment opportunities for individuals affected by anti-galamsey operations. Protecting our agricultural lands is a top priority,” he noted.

Madam Theresah Randolph, Country Managing Director for Yara Ghana, emphasized the significance of empowering women in agriculture.

    > “Over 50% of Ghana’s population are women, and they are the backbone of agricultural production. Supporting them is not just important — it is essential. Women understand the value of feeding their families and communities,” she said.

She also highlighted Yara’s efforts to educate farmers, especially women, on climate change and sustainable farming practices, underscoring their commitment to environmental responsibility and agricultural advancement.
