Jean Mensa is the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana
A former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central has cautioned the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC), Jean Mensa, and her deputies against any attempt to rig the upcoming parliamentary election rerun in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North constituency.
Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime on July 7, 2025, Ebenezer Nartey asserted that the EC commissioners helping the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to win the Ablekuma North seat, which will give the party an absolute majority in Parliament, will not save their jobs.
He claimed that the people who are going to be the replacement for Jean Mensa and her deputies have already been appointed by President John Dramani Mahama, and nothing can change their fate.
“In 1998, in my constituency, Ablekuma Central, we lost the sitting Member of Parliament, C S Crap. At that time, the NDC needed just one seat in 1998 to change the Constitution of this country to give the late President Rawlings an opportunity again.
“But the people in Ablekuma Central resisted and fought for the rights of the people of this country. And we won that seat in 1998. I want Jean Mensa and her people to understand that no amount of imagination, no amount of conniving, no amount of giving somebody a majority in Parliament will work. The people in Ablekuma North will follow the suit of Ablekuma Central to ensure that the right thing is being done,” he said.
He added, “And let them understand what I’m telling them… the three people that will go and replace them, those three people have already been appointed. They are just waiting for the process to remove them (Mensa and her deputies). So whatever they think they are doing in favour of the NDC or in favour of any political party is a lie.”
