Veteran Ghanaian actress and cultural icon Kalsoume Sinare has been appointed by President John Dramani Mahama as Ghana’s next Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, marking a new chapter in her illustrious and multifaceted career.

The appointment, announced in a letter from the Office of the President dated June 10, 2025, and signed by Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, PhD, forms part of a fresh wave of ambassadorial and high commissioner nominations made after consultations with the Council of State, in accordance with Article 74 of the 1992 Constitution. The list includes a blend of distinguished personalities from academia, politics, and public life—among them former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu and former La-Dadekotopon MP Nii Amasah Namoale.

For Kalsoume Sinare, this appointment is both a personal milestone and a national symbol—reflecting the rising intersection of the arts, diplomacy, and national development. With a career spanning nearly four decades in the creative industry, Sinare is not only one of Ghana’s most celebrated actresses, but also a seasoned executive, entrepreneur, and public servant.

She first captured national attention in the 1990s with standout performances in films such as Babina, Beyoncé, Her Excellency, and A Taste of Sin. Her breakout role came in 1993’s Out of Sight, Out of Love, a performance that earned her international acclaim. Before film, she had already represented Ghana on global platforms—placing first runner-up at the 1989 Miss Ghana pageant and winning Miss Model of Africa at the Miss Model of the World contest in Taiwan in 1990.

Beyond entertainment, Kalsoume Sinare has long been a visible force in nation-building. She holds a Master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from GIMPA, a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration, and certificates in International Cultural Diplomacy and African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) implementation. She currently leads several companies under Farikals Productions, with interests spanning healthcare, trade, construction, and entertainment.

Her political alignment with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has also been well noted, having publicly endorsed John Mahama in previous election campaigns. Her nomination to the ambassadorial role comes amid reports of high-level party deliberations, as her name emerged alongside that of her cousin, Alhaji Said Sinare—a former Ghanaian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

If approved by Parliament, Kalsoume Sinare will officially represent Ghana in Spain, where her diverse background in culture, business, and governance is expected to bring a dynamic edge to Ghana’s diplomatic engagement in Europe.

From the big screen to the global stage, Kalsoume Sinare’s evolution reflects not just personal success, but a growing national recognition of the value of creatives in international diplomacy and development. Her appointment is a resounding statement that vision, charisma, and cultural capital remain key assets in Ghana’s journey forward.
