Ghana’s national women’s team, the Black Queens, have dropped one place in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings released on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

The team has moved from 65th to 66th position globally, and from 5th to 6th on the African continent.

This decline follows a mixed run of results under new head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren, who took over in February 2025.

Since the last rankings update in March, the Black Queens have played four matches, winning just once in a friendly against Senegal.

They drew one game and lost two, including a recent 1-0 defeat to Ivory Coast after a 3-3 draw in the first leg of their double-header.

The recent fixtures formed part of Ghana’s preparations for the delayed 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), set to begin in July 2025.

The team has struggled to find consistency under Bjorkegren, recording only one win in their last five outings.

As the Black Queens prepare for WAFCON, they will face tough opposition in Group C, which includes defending champions South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania.

With rankings and form both dipping, Ghana will need to step up in the tournament to regain momentum and climb back up the ladder.
