Benjamin Azamati has secured qualification to the 2025 World Athletics Championships Benjamin Azamati has secured qualification to the 2025 World Athletics Championships

Ghanaian sprinter Benjamin Azamati has qualified for the 2025 World Athletics Championships after recording an impressive 9.98 seconds to finish in first position.

The run, which took place in California, United States, saw him outpace his seven other competitors to emerge victorious despite starting from behind.

The run marks the sprinter’s season best and puts him in a tie for 17th on the official men’s 100m qualification list for the athletics meet.

His qualification adds to Ghana’s representatives at the global competition, as the 4×100 relay team has already booked their ticket to the event.

The 26-year-old reached the semi-finals at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and recently did not participate in Ghana’s relay team for the Guangzhou World Relays to concentrate on training for the individual 100m race, which he has now accomplished.

Azamati holds the record as Ghana’s fastest man over 100m and has also played a pivotal role in the success of the 4×100 relay team.

Azamati and the other athletes will focus on preparing adequately to achieve successes at the Tokyo World Athletics Championships, taking place from September 13 to 21, 2025.
