Some Ghanaian entertainment personalities have lashed out at Mona Gucci following her recent criticism of TikTok stars.
The controversy stemmed from a statement made by Nana Akua Addo, who expressed that she couldn’t be seen on the red carpet at the TGMAs with TikTokers.
She elaborated on her comments by saying that although Chatter House, the organizers the awards, played a huge role in shaping her career, she now feels the event organizers need to be more selective about who they invite to the red carpet.
Almed, one of Ghana’s prominent TikTok stars, who had a problem with Nana Akua Addo’s comments, stormed social media with a response.
He argued that it appeared the TikTok stars had “hijacked” the red carpet only because the invited celebrities didn’t show up.
Mona Gucci then weighed in on the controversy, stating that TikTokers are not celebrities and should stop behaving as though they are.
She also supported Nana Akua Addo’s position, agreeing that she shouldn’t be on the red carpet with TikTokers.
Mona Gucci’s remarks subsequently sparked reactions from several celebrities, including Efia Odo, Charlie Dior, and Sister Derby, who backlashed her for belittling TikTok stars.
Efia Odo responded,“You are all full of negativity, and it’s not nice. You always complain about everything. By God’s grace, everything is going well on social media. People are making money and getting recognition, and you’re still complaining about who they are. If they weren’t relevant, you wouldn’t be speaking about them. You’re upset that influencers are using the platforms they’ve earned to make money.”
Sister Derby also reacted, questioning why Mona Gucci would waste over a minute and a half discussing Almed if she believes he’s a nobody.
“She tried to say that you’re a nobody, but I just watched a 1:40 minute long video of her talking about you,” Sister Derby said.
Charlie Dior also took to his social media to defend TikTok stars, saying, “My babies make me proud. Every time I see them standing up for themselves on here! One thing! Don’t come for us if we didn’t send for you.”
