Ghanaian film producer Daniel Kofi Ewusie has accused the National Film Authority (NFA) of enabling TV3 to broadcast his movie without his consent.

He has described the act as a violation of his intellectual property rights.

Speaking in an interview on Adom TV on May 4, 2025, Ewusie claimed that the NFA, under the leadership of Juliet Asante, granted TV3 permission to air his film without seeking his approval.

“After my investigations, I noticed that the National Film Authority gave TV3 the go-ahead to air my movie. We submitted the film to Juliet Asante who was the organiser of the Black Star Film Festival. That was during the film festival and she gave it to TV3.

“What pains me a lot is that I posted this on my social media pages in January, and nobody cares about it… I flew seven crew members to the United States for awards. The movie is not just any regular movie so claiming you are the best in entertainment doesn’t mean you can steal someone’s intellectual property,” he said.

According to Ewusie, the film was submitted to Juliet Asante during the Black Star Film Festival, which she organised.

He alleged that the film was later given to TV3 without his knowledge or consent.

Ewusie said despite repeated attempts to address the matter with both the NFA and TV3, his efforts have yielded no results.

“I’m suing them. I wrote to TV3 and told them to stop airing the movie. They acknowledged receipt of the notice, but I haven’t heard from them in over three months. My lawyers have followed up with a reminder, and still, there’s been no response,” he stated

He added that legal proceedings would begin on Monday and that he hopes this case will serve as a precedent in protecting creative rights.

“I’m filing this in court as a case study. It’s time we take these issues seriously in Ghana,” he concluded.
