Gospel singer, Mavis Asante, has made it clear she has no interest in collaborating with secular artistes.

According to her, such collaboration does not align with her divine calling as a minister of the gospel.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, the “Victory” singer, expressed strong disapproval of the growing trend where gospel artistes’ team up with secular musicians, describing the outcome of such projects as “noise” that adds no value to the gospel message.

“As gospel musicians, we have a unique calling that shouldn’t be mixed with secular pursuits. Before any collaboration, one must ask ‘What’s the purpose?’ Is it for fame, hype, or to win souls? Because if it’s not clearly rooted in a godly purpose, then it’s fundamentally wrong,” she said.

Drawing a parallel between professions, Mavis Asante noted that every individual has a specific assignment, and mixing roles only creates confusion.

“A lawyer can’t perform surgery, and a surgeon can’t defend anyone in court. In the same way, gospel and secular artistes have different callings and missions,” she explained.

She believes that instead of crossing over to work with secular names, gospel musicians should focus on prayerfully discerning their collaborations and consider the spiritual implications.

“Sometimes, saying no to certain desires like featuring a secular artiste honours God more than any big-name collaboration ever could,” she added.
