Earlier today,  April 26, 2025, the legal team for Ghanaian rapper Michael Owusu Addo, widely known as Sarkodie, issued a strong statement clarifying the facts surrounding an ongoing legal dispute with Ecobank Ghana Ltd.

The press release was prompted by several media reports suggesting that Sarkodie had instructed his lawyers to withdraw from the lawsuit, a claim his legal representatives firmly denied.

They further explained that under Ghanaian civil procedure, a plaintiff like Sarkodie does not require the defendant’s (Ecobank’s) permission to discontinue a case if the defendant has not yet filed a Statement of Defence, a step that Ecobank had not yet completed at the time of the release.

The statement also accused the authors of the false reports of attempting to manipulate public opinion and interfere with the court process.

They cited Section 225 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), Sarkodie’s lawyers warned that publishing misleading information during ongoing court proceedings with the intent to sway public sentiment is a criminal offense.

Again, in a stern warning, Sarkodie’s legal team announced their readiness to take legal action against any parties who persist in spreading misinformation intended to prejudice the court process.
