Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President, Alex Segbefia Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President, Alex Segbefia

The Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President, Alex Segbefia, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding coastal communities in the Volta Region by implementing a robust sea defence system.

Speaking on behalf of Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang at the Dzita Easter Homecoming festival in Keta, Segbefia highlighted the urgency of addressing the ongoing devastation caused by tidal waves and coastal erosion.

“We have already heard about government involvement in addressing some of the pressing challenges, particularly the need for a robust sea defense system not just here but along the entire coast of the Volta Region,” he said.

His remarks come as many communities along the coastline continue to suffer severe losses due to rising sea levels and unchecked erosion, which have displaced residents and destroyed homes over the years.

Alex Segbefia emphasised that the administration views this as a critical component of its broader regional development strategy.

The Dzita Easter Homecoming festival served as a moment to celebrate community and reflect on the region’s challenges and the shared responsibility in tackling them.

In his message, he assured residents that the government recognises their plight and is taking tangible steps to offer long-term protection and relief.
