Ghanaian musician Agbeshie has said that the Volta Region is often neglected when it comes to entertainment and music promotion in Ghana.

According to the “Wrowroho” hitmaker, most top artistes in Ghana often ignore the region when promoting their music.

Speaking in an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, Agbeshie noted that despite the love for music within the region, it has been largely left out when it comes to major promotional activities by popular artistes.

“Over time, the Volta Region has been somewhat isolated in terms of entertainment. However, the region has developed its own superstars. Whenever I release a song, I always come here to promote it,” he said.

The rapper stated that unlike the “big artistes” who focus solely on Accra and Kumasi, he (Agbeshie), deliberately moves as far as Takoradi to promote his song anytime he has a new project out.

“I’ve noticed that many big artists do not come to the Volta Region for promotion. The last time I checked, I even went to Takoradi to promote my song because I know there are Ewes living there,” he added.

He also emphasised that the lack of direct engagement by the “big artistes” has influenced how the Volta audience interacts with them when they come for a show in the region.

According to him, the sense of exclusion has inspired locals to throw their weight behind homegrown talents who show up and represent the region.

He added that the loyalty within the region is so strong that even when the biggest names in Ghana’s music industry are booked for a show in the region, they may not be well received in the Volta Region unless there is a homegrown artiste on the bill.

“The big artistes often overlook the Volta Region, leading the local audience to feel that if these artistes aren’t coming to them, they will support and grow their own talents. The region has reached a point where, no matter how famous someone is in Accra, when they come to the Volta Region, they may not get the attention they expect.

“Instead, the people await artistes like Agbeshie, who have built a connection with them over time,” he explained.
