Ghanaian music duo, Keche, has emphasised the important role of the media in the careers of artistes.

The group advised their fellow artistes to remain humble and appreciate the contributions of the media to their success.

Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM with Dr. Pounds, Keche noted that an artiste’s stardom is largely dependent on media coverage and disregarding that fact would be a grave mistake.

“No one is a star without the media. If you believe you are greater than the media, that perspective is misguided. Without the media, you are essentially unknown, and without us, the media also lacks significance. It’s important not to boast or show off to the media in an attempt to prove your stardom. Instead, you should approach it with humility,” the duo shared.

According to Keche, once an artiste achieves a certain level of popularity, he or she starts to overlook the influence of media.

The music group emphasised that maintaining a good relationship with media houses and journalists is important for sustaining relevance in the industry.

They also talked about the origin of their group name, Keche, as they admitted that their current their name was not their first choice.

“Keche wasn’t our original name. We started with the name ‘Afoforo,’ but it did not work. We then tried ‘Chop Bar,’ but it did not work for us. After that, we went on to ‘The One’ before settling on the name Keche” they explained.

They expressed gratitude to renowned sound engineer Kaywa and the late musician Castro for helping them decide on their final name, which has now become a household brand in the Ghanaian music scene.
