Players of the Chad national team
Ghana face an uphill task against Chad on Friday, March 21, 2025, when the two meet at the Accra Sports Stadium for a place at the 2026 World Cup.
Chad’s failure to secure any points from their four games so far and Ghana’s quest for redemption make the four-time Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions the favorites going into the game.
However, if there’s any team in recent years that has proven capable of faltering under pressure and letting the moment overwhelm them, it’s the Black Stars.
As such, they must be wary of the Chad team, especially these three key players.
Mahamat Thiam
Born in France, Mahamat Thiam chose to represent Chad and has featured in Chad’s last seven games, dating back to June 2024.
His versatility makes the former Kolkheti 1913 defensive midfielder a force to be reckoned with.
Since his debut for Les Sao in March 2024, Thiam has been used in multiple roles on the pitch, including as a left-back. He has scored one goal in nine appearances for Chad.
Frederic Djoeta
The midfielder was part of Elect Sport’s team that suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Ghana Premier League club, Nsoatreman, in the CAF Confederation Cup in 2024.
At just 21 years of age, Djoeta’s robustness in midfield should be a concern for the Black Stars. The 21-year-old made his debut for Chad in 2023, at the age of 20, and has since made four appearances for Les Sao.
His defensive skills and ability to spot danger have contributed to Elect Sport conceding just 17 goals in 21 games in the Chad Premiere Division.
Gabkala Daba
Another youngster on the team, Gabkala Daba has consistently demonstrated his potential whenever he steps onto the pitch.
Playing for AS Psi, the team has conceded just 16 goals in 20 games in the Chad Premiere Division. Psi has also kept three clean sheets in their last five games, with Daba playing crucial roles in those matches.
His ability to anticipate danger and deliver precise crosses could prove pivotal for Chad against the Black Stars on Friday, March 21, 2025.
