President John Dramani Mahama has cautioned his appointees to ensure that public funds are used judiciously to the benefit of Ghanaians, and not only government officials.

According to a report by myjoyonline, com, he made these remarks while speaking at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, during the swearing-in of 13 deputy ministers and a minister of state.

The president stressed that his approach to a lean government is rooted in responsible use of public funds.

“Our decision to run a lean government is not just about reducing the number of ministers or staff at the Presidency.

“It is based on the principle that public resources must be used wisely. Government must exercise financial discipline to ensure that resources are allocated efficiently and responsibly,” he noted.

He further indicated that spending must be balanced with the financial burden placed on citizens through taxes.

“Public funds must go primarily into investments that directly benefit Ghanaians. Those who oversee these funds must not be the biggest beneficiaries,” he warned.
