‘Don’t mess up, make a difference’ – KSM to young Mahama appointees

Renowned comedian and social commentator, Kwaku Sintim-Misa, popularly known as KSM, has offered a piece of advice to the young individuals recently appointed to key government positions.

In a video posted on his YouTube channel, KSM encouraged the young appointees to make an impact in their respective roles, now that President John Dramani Mahama has finally opened up the platform to younger generations.

“The cry has always been that young people have not been given a chance. The complaint has been that older generations are holding on to positions and not allowing the youth to come into the fray. But now, the youth have been given that chance,” KSM stated.

He also challenged the new appointees to avoid becoming part of what he referred to as a “NATO alliance”, “No Action, Talk Only.”

“This group of young people, who are supposed to be dynamic, must not fall into the NATO alliance. We need to see real change, not just talk. We need to see a difference,” he urged.

KSM specifically addressed KOD, the new Director of Diaspora Relations at the Presidency, urging him to transform the role into something impactful.

“Right now, if you ask me about diaspora affairs, it’s a vague term. Your challenge is to turn it into something real and valuable, something that can be discussed with concrete examples of success and impact,” he said.

Turning his attention to Abeiku Santana, the newly appointed Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, KSM acknowledged his previous accomplishments but emphasised the need for tangible results in his new role.

“Abeiku, you’ve achieved so much in tourism. You’ve won countless awards and received numerous citations. Now, as Deputy CEO, the ball is in your court. We want to see results. We want to sit back and say, ‘We gave the youth the opportunity, and they delivered,'” KSM stated.

KSM also called on Malik Basintale, the head of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), to focus on creating real employment opportunities and empowering young people.

“You’re a young man, and I hear you’re also an old boy. Make a difference. What can you create for the youth that will lead to employment or self-employment? All they say is ‘We want employment.’ Work on that. Bring some dynamism and change things,” he urged.

To John Dumelo, the newly sworn-in Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, KSM encouraged him to make agriculture appealing to the younger generation.

“Make agriculture sexy. Think of ways to make farming more attractive so that people whose livelihoods depend on betting might consider venturing into something like snail farming or mushroom farming,” he suggested.

KSM concluded by urging the young appointees to collaborate and innovate, emphasising the importance of teamwork in creating positive change.

“Set up a meeting, hang out, get together, talk, think, and create. You have been given a chance to define something and add real value to it,” he said.
