In a cheeky and entertaining remark, former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has poked fun at his old teammate Wayne Rooney’s appearance, jokingly suggesting that the former England striker has aged at an astonishing rate.
According to the legendary left-back, Rooney looked 30 when he was just 15 and now resembles a 70-year-old despite being only 38.
In a video going viral on X (formerly Twitter), Evra acknowledged Rooney’s excellent career, particularly after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from Manchester United.
“I saw the real Wayne Rooney when Cristiano left for Madrid. That’s when we witnessed his true potential,” Evra said.
However, despite his praise, Evra humorously took a dig at the former Manchester United forward’s appearance, comparing it to the long-standing jokes about some African and Brazilian players allegedly altering their ages when turning professional.
“For Wayne Rooney, I always made that joke—people say Brazilian and African players change their ages. Like, I could say I’m 42 in Europe but 50 or 60 in Africa.
“But Rooney is a liar because, at 15, he already looked 30 and now, Wazza must be around 38, but he looks 73. That’s why I think he was actually Bobby Charlton but Wayne Rooney definitely changed his age,” he added with a laugh.
