Renowned Ghanaian musician, Reggie Rockstone, has spoken out about a recent scathing review of his RockzWaakye Restaurant, alleging that it was part of a deliberate setup by a competitor.
In a video shared on social media, Rockstone recounted how a food blogger on TikTok harshly criticised his waakye, particularly targeting the use of coconut oil, which is a signature ingredient of his dish.
Initially, Rockstone said he took the criticism in stride, considering it as the blogger’s personal experience.
“I took it in good faith. I was like, ‘Okay, this might be her personal experience, but I had a little reservation about it because her gripe was based on my coconut oil. And this happens to be our signature ingredient. So, I addressed it.
“I also thought it was a little bit harsh because when you talk trash about somebody’s business, it affects their revenue. Anyway, I left that. Nowhere in my mind did I think that it could be a setup,” he said.
However, he said he was later informed by an old friend that the negative review was orchestrated by the owner of another waakye joint, who paid someone to ‘badmouth’ RockzWaakye.
“He said, ‘You see that review, all that that’s going on? It’s a setup.’ He said he wouldn’t mention the place, but there is another Waakye joint and the owner paid for somebody to bad mouth us,” he said.
He highlighted the impact such negative reviews can have on a business’s revenue and reputation.
“I’m a people’s person. So, usually when somebody has any reservations about my food, they either come in my DM or they try to tell me so I can fix it. But this review was crazy. This person was like, ‘The food is trash. This is the worst food I ever had.’
“And that’s what drew my attention to the sister. Now I truly believe what this dude is telling me. It’s terrible,” he said.
The musician urged his followers to be vigilant and wary of such tactics, telling them to “fear people.”
