Music producer Kwesi Ernest has described the late mother of gospel musician Empress Gifty as a mother to the creative arts industry.

Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie on January 18, 2025, at the funeral ceremony of ‘Agaga’, the musician noted that Evangelist Agnes Aba Annan served as a pillar in the industry.

He emphasised that Agaga didn’t serve in the interest of only her daughter but to everyone in the creative arts fraternity.

“She was an actress who supported the creative industry. She connected to everyone including the members of the music industry… Agaga supported Kofi, Sarpong, Diana Hamilton and any other person doing well in the gospel fraternity.

“So she is more or less like a mother to the entire creative industry. So for us, we have lost a very great pillar in the industry,” he said.

Kwesi Ernest also added that Agaga has left a huge hole in the life of her daughter which will be difficult for anyone to fill.

“Agaga and her daughter have a special connection and it will be very difficult for Empress Gifty to get a replacement regardless of whoever she works with. Agaga played a role emotionally, spiritually, and mentally in her daughter’s life,” he added.

Agaga, born in 1954, was a well-known actress and appeared in numerous TV commercials. Despite her age, she was known for her outspoken and bubbly personality.

The funeral ceremony, which was held at the Tema Community 8 school park, witnessed a lot of members of the creative arts fraternity such as Diana Asamoah, Joe Mettle, DSP Kofi Sarpong, Kofi Kinaata, Broda Sammy, among others, sympathising with the musician.
