LeSean McCoy openly questioned why Brock Purdy gifted his offensive linemen with Toyota Trucks amid the 49ers’ rough season.
Purdy, who helped the Niners reach the Super Bowl in his first full season as starting quarterback last year, surprised the O-line with some expensive new wheels despite their struggles in 2024.
In a clip released by the team, the 24-year-old can be seen walking into a meeting room and giving his teammates the news, before inviting them outside to find their white trucks waiting with red Christmas bows on the bonnets.
During Friday’s installment of The Facility Group Chat, McCoy tore into Purdy for gifting his linemen despite them failing to protect him from defenses for most of this season.
‘When I was playing and dudes did they thing for me, I was looking out for my linemen,’ McCoy opened the segment. ‘
‘All Rollies, baby,’ he added, noting how he gifted his teammates Rolexes.
LeSean McCoy insisted that Brock Purdy should not have gifted his offensive line with trucks
A video of Purdy giving his teammates the brand new Toyota trucks was released by the 49ers
‘This is what I don’t get with Purdy though,’ McCoy continued. ‘Respect because I like what he’s doing, but what are you buying these guys this for? It ain’t like they’re blocking for you. It ain’t like y’all doing good. They’re not even doing good.’
When his fellow panelists insisted that the o-line ‘still deserves gifts,’ McCoy quickly responded, saying ‘For what?’
‘You’ve been bad all year. If your girlfriend’s been bad all year, she deserve a gift on Christmas?’
So far this season, Purdy has completed 247 of 380 passing attempts for 4,280 yards and 15 touchdowns through 13 games. During their NFC-winning run last year, he completed 308 of 444 passes for 4,280 yards and 31 touchdowns, making it a longshot to catch those numbers with three games left.
As the Iowa State product struggles, the 49ers have dropped to the bottom of the NFC West with a 6-8 record.
After the video of Purdy gifting his teammates was released, users on X pointed out that Purdy’s salary in San Francisco is massively outweighed by the team’s five starting offensive linemen.
According to Spotrac, the quarterback makes $934,252 in the 2024 season while the starting O-line is raking in a staggering $37,651,852, which works out as around $7.5m each.
McCoy’s fellow panelists emphasized the pay difference and Purdy’s partnership with Toyota which many assumed made the pricey giveaway possible. Still, he remained adamant that the quarterback should have passed on gifting them.
‘Why are we getting any gifts? You’re not blocking that well if I’m not playing that well,’ he reiterated. ‘My stats ain’t that great, we not in the playoffs, what are we doing?’
The 49ers have games against the Dolphins, Lions, and Cardinals remaining on their regular season schedule.
