Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, GN Bank’s founder and CEO, has announced some good news that will give many Ghanaians optimism. In a recent Facebook post, Dr. Nduom stated that the reinstatement of GN Bank’s license will result in at least 3,000 direct jobs across Ghana’s 16 regions by 2025.
GN Bank, a former financial institution, had its license withdrawn by the Bank of Ghana under the Akufo-Addo administration. The decision, which was part of a larger financial sector cleanup effort, resulted in the loss of several employment and impacted the livelihoods of many Ghanaians. The action was contentious and met with criticism, particularly from fans of the bank and its founder.
Former President John Dramani Mahama promised to reinstate GN Bank’s license if elected president in 2024. Now that John Mahama has been proclaimed the victor of the 2024 elections, there are strong hopes that GN Bank would soon begin operations. Dr. Nduom’s declaration of prospective job creation represents the first step in fulfilling this promise.
According to Dr. Nduom, the reopening of GN Bank would not only create jobs, but will also give financial services to disadvantaged regions around the country. With branches scattered across 16 areas, the bank’s return is expected to have a big impact on Ghana’s economy and bring hope to households who have lost their primary source of income. Many Ghanaians have responded positively to this statement, particularly those hoping for new work prospects.
