Popular Kumawood actress Christiana Awuni has explained why she supported president-elect John Dramani Mahama in the 2024 elections.

She has emphasised that her endorsement of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was driven by a desire for positive change in Ghana, not personal gain.

Speaking on Hitz FM, Christiana Awuni clarified that her backing for the NDC was not about selfish interests.

“People think we supported the NDC because of selfish reasons, but it is not so. We did this for Ghana,” she said.

She also said her decision to oppose the Akufo-Addo administration stemmed from unmet promises regarding the challenges facing the film industry.

She then urged for sustainable solutions to uplift the Creative Arts Industry, which she believes should be treated as a vital sector beyond just entertainment.

Christiana Awuni was among a number of celebrities, including Mzbel, DKB, Mr. Beautiful, Nero X, and Big Akwes, who publicly supported the NDC in the December 7, 2024 general elections.
