Ghanaian music businessman-turned-politician Baba Sadiq has been declared winner of the Okaikwei Central parliamentary seat in the 2024 elections.

The EC in its official declaration, announced that Baba Sadiq won by 15,383 votes while Patrick Boamah had 14,949 votes. The result was announced from the collation of results from 78% of polling stations in the constituency.

In his acceptance, Baba Sadiq recounted the hard work and determination he applied during his campaign, stating that he was not surprised by the results.

The announcement, which was made by the Electoral Commission on December 9, 2024, comes after conflicting reports about the Okaikwei Central parliamentary election results.

Baba Sadiq had declared victory, citing his collation numbers showing he received 21,303 votes (52%) against NPP incumbent Patrick Yaw Boamah’s 18,951 votes (47.08%).

Other media sources reported that Boamah won with 20,229 votes, surpassing Sadiq’s 18,783 votes.

Baba Sadiq joins other entertainment stakeholders, including actor John Dumelo and musician A-Plus, who have gained political positions after the elections.

Although the Electoral Commission is yet to officially announce the final results of the presidential elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP flagbearer, has conceded defeat and congratulated his opponent, John Mahama of the NDC.
