A downpour that initially threatened to mar the final rally of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia turned out to be a blessing, as thousands of NPP supporters showed defiance and love.

The rally was getting to its peak, with party gurus such as former President Kufuor, President Akufo-Addo and the candidate, Bawumia, yet to address the crowd. However, the heavens opened, thereby threatening the rally.

The rains started slowly when former President Kufuor was delivering his passionate appeal to Ghanaians to vote for Bawumia, but the veteran politician was unperturbed, and so were the thousands gathered.

As former President Kufuor concluded his speech, next up was running mate Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, who referred to the rains in December as a good sign.

After NAPO was Second Lady Samira Bawumia, and her introduction coincided with the rains intensifying.

Samira, who delivered arguably one of her best political speeches, was not deterred by the rains either, and she thrilled the defiant crowd with her address, which focused on highlighting some of the achievements of the NPP and testimonies about her husband’s commitment to building on the successes to transform Ghana.

The crowd’s commitment was tested during the delivery of the Second Lady’s address when the rain intensified, but they stayed on and cheered every sentence by the Second Lady, who received a standing ovation from party elders, including President Akufo-Addo.

Fortunately, the rains stopped just when Samira Bawumi was about ending her address, after which President Akufo-Addo mounted the stage for his own address, which centred on questioning the record of former President Mahama when he was President.

After the President, Dr. Bawumia was ushered in, and before his address, he described the rains as “showers of blessing”.
