Actor cum musician, Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as LilWin, has expressed displeasure over not being recognised as a serious musician despite his significant contributions to the Ghanaian music scene.

In an interview with Amansan Krakye, LilWin revealed that although he has produced numerous hit songs over the years, he is still not regarded as a serious musician.

“I’m not considered a serious musician despite the number of hits I’ve released since I started my music career. I’ve dropped hit after hit, but I’m still not given the respect I deserve.

“Some new musicians release just one or two hit songs, and they’re immediately awarded. But I’ve produced countless hits like Ladder, Mama Boss Papa, Anointing, and Woto Mpo Ni, and yet I’ve never been awarded at the TGMA (Ghana Music Awards),” he stated.

The actor went on to explain that in other countries, musicians are duly recognised regardless of their genre or background.

“A white man doesn’t care whether you’re a musician or not. If you release a hit song, they’ll reward you,” he said.

However, according to LilWin, the situation in Ghana is different. He pointed out that in Ghana, artistes often have to pay money in order to be given awards.

“But to pay for an award? I’d rather use that money to buy Kokonte,” he added, expressing disappointment with the practice.

LilWin also bemoaned the practice of newer artists being favoured over seasoned musicians in the country.
