Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey, has opened up on the tough upbringing he received from his father, despite the family’s wealth.

In an interview on Adom TV on November 23, 2024, Okraku-Mantey explained that his father did not indulge him with the privileges typically associated with wealth.

“When my father died and I had to check if indeed he was dead, I stood with my hands behind me while talking to the body. In our house, you couldn’t even disrespect our house help.

“I grew up not knowing my father was wealthy because he didn’t give us the pampered lifestyle that other rich kids experienced. He gave us the typical hard Akuapem training and instilled discipline in us,” he recalled.

Okraku-Mantey also disclosed that the gas filling station that exploded at Atomic in Madina was owned by his father.

“My father was a Chief in Akropong. He owned lands in Cantonments, and the gas filling station that burned at Atomic also belonged to him,” he added.

Mark Okraku-Mantey, aside from his ministerial appointment, is an astute showbiz industry stakeholder and the founder of Slip Mark Entertainment.
