A motorbike ride ended in tragedy when an officer of the Ghana Immigration Service, only identified as Amoakoh, popularly known as Ahuoden, lost his life at Assin Fosu in the Central Region.

Amoakoh was the pillion passenger, while a police officer attached to the Central North Regional Command, who was the rider, sustained severe injuries and remains in critical condition.

Speaking to Adom News, an eyewitness, Joseph Okyere, also known as Assin Trendz, recounted that the duo was travelling in the direction of Kumasi road towards the Assin Fosu main lorry station at around 1:00 am on Monday.

According to him, the motorbike was travelling at extreme speed on the largely deserted highway when it suddenly veered off the road and slammed into the concrete staircase of a store near the Assin Fosu Town Market at Ajeep.

Amoakoh, who was reportedly not wearing a helmet, struck his head against the roadside gutter and died at the scene.

Bystanders rushed to the crash site and transported both victims to the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu for emergency care. Medical personnel confirmed that Amoakoh was dead.

The surviving police officer, also known as Stone, suffered severe fractures to his left arm and left leg. He remains on admission at St. Francis Xavier Hospital, receiving intensive care.

Officers from the Central North Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) have visited the scene, impounded the damaged motorbike for examination, and launched an investigation to establish the exact cause of the crash.

The body of the deceased officer has been deposited at the hospital’s morgue pending an autopsy.
