One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has accused the Albanese government of repeatedly missing its own migration targets, claiming Labor is on track to bring another one million migrants to Australia over the next four years.
On Monday, Hanson argued that Home Affairs and Immigration Minister Tony Burke’s upcoming migration announcement would maintain Australia’s high migration intake rather than reduce it.
‘Tony Burke isn’t cutting migration. He is doubling down on bringing in another million people over the next four years,’ Hanson said.
‘This weak government has never once hit a migration target it set. Not once, in four years.’
Hanson pointed to a series of migration forecasts she claims Labor has exceeded.
She noted the government originally forecast net overseas migration of 235,000 in October 2022, but said the figure later rose to 538,000.
She also cited Labor’s May 2023 forecast of 315,000, claiming net overseas migration ultimately reached 429,000.
The One Nation leader further claimed Labor forecast net overseas migration of 260,000 in May 2024, but that figure later increased to 306,000.

She also accused Labor of shifting its own benchmarks, forecasting net overseas migration of 260,000 in December 2025 before revising the estimate to 295,000 by May.
‘Labor has never hit a migration target it set,’ Hanson said.
‘You just cannot trust Labor.’
Hanson’s comments follow Burke’s decision to postpone a National Press Club address where he was expected to unveil a sweeping package of reforms aimed at sharply reducing migration, amid internal Labor Party tensions over the proposed changes.
The reported crackdown included tougher family visa rules, caps on backpacker numbers and tighter restrictions on asylum seekers’ work and appeal rights.
‘That’s why your rent exploded, your pay went backwards, and your kids can’t buy a home. It’s why hospitals are turning away sick people.’
Hanson argued Labor’s migration policies had put excessive strain on housing, infrastructure and essential services while failing to deliver for Australians.
‘Labor’s immigration policy has overwhelmed Australia and sent us backwards,’ Hanson said.
‘Enough is enough.’

The One Nation leader directly linked migration growth to housing affordability, rising rents and mounting pressure on public services.
The Albanese Cabinet is set to discuss the new migration policy on Monday, ahead of politicians returning to Canberra for the upcoming sitting fortnight on Tuesday.
